Kim M. VanHoudt, age 49, of Faribault, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014, following a sudden illness, at her mother's home.
Private Memorial Services will be held on Friday, January10, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault with Bernadette Tatge, Pastoral Minister at Divine Mercy Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Faribault.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The family prefers that memorials be directed to the Rice County Humane Society in memory of Kim.
Kim Marie, the daughter of Donald and Lorea (Halvorson) VanHoudt, was born on October 27, 1964 in Faribault, MN. She attended Faribault Senior High School and graduated with the class of 1983. Following high school, Kim attended the University of Minnesota-Morris and graduated with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. Kim returned to Faribault and began her career at the Faribault Regional Center and later transitioned to the Faribault Correctional Facility as a Corrections Officer. She worked for the State of Minnesota for over 20 years. Kim enjoyed helping others and took great pleasure in doing things for others. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her niece and nephews, her friends and working in her gardens. She was a member of the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles.
She is survived by her mother, Lorea VanHoudt of Faribault; by her brother, John VanHoudt of Faribault and by her sister, Lisa Knott of Faribault; by her niece, Lexie Knott, nephews, Andrew and Tyler Knott and by her beloved dog Purdie and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald VanHoudt, paternal grandparents, John and Ruth (Aube) VanHoudt and maternal grandparents, Leslie and Elda (Hargefeld) Halvorson.
