Judy “Judith” Langerud, age 84, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, at Allina Medical Center in Faribault surrounded by much of her family. She was born on October 27, 1940, to Wane and Mary (Betty) Shea, in Blackduck, MN. Judy’s vibrant spirit and infectious laugh touched the hearts of many, and her love for family and friends will always be remembered.
In 1963, Judy married the love of her life, Sig Langerud from Walker MN and together they shared a remarkable 62 years of marriage. She is survived by her beloved husband, Sig, her sister Gwyne Montagna of Anchorage, Alaska, and their three children: Laurie Langerud, Tony (Carol) Langerud, and Jason (Shannon) Langerud. Judy also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Chris (Amanda) Jensen, Andy (Phouthone) Jensen, Lauren (David) Grun, Blake (Lilly) Langerud, Caitlin Langerud, and Porter and Piper Langerud. as well as eight great-grandchildren: Elijah, Mason, Emma, Zion, Ella, Brooks, Maxwell, and Bobby (Robert).
Judy’s life was defined by her deep love for family and her warm, welcoming nature. She always put others first, sharing stories and laughter that brought joy to every room she entered. Whether through her passion for gardening, her love of reading, or her timeless sense of humor, Judy brought light into the lives of everyone she met.
As a young woman, she became an excellent seamstress and worked as a bookkeeper for various organizations, including Catholic Charities, the Gilfillan Center in Bemidji, Hunstiger’s Meats and the City of St. Cloud. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, which brought her much joy. Judy’s spirit and dedication to those she loved made her a constant source of strength, and she was known for her "get-it-done" attitude in all she did.
Judy’s devotion to her family was unmatched, and she believed in the power of hard work, integrity, and the importance of family above all else. A proud Irish woman, her legacy will live on in her family’s shared laughter, the blooms in her garden, and the many lives she touched with her kindness and humor. We will always remember her memorable quotes, like “Well there you have it!” “Getting old isn’t for sissies” and “Tony, close your closet door!”
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Wane and Betty Shea, and her granddaughters, Madison and McKenzie Langerud.
