Judith Ann was born on March 1, 1932 to Wilard and Marjorie (Thomson) Starr. She was later adopted by Jim Mansmith following Wilard's death. Her family moved around to many different places during her childhood, including Minneapolis, Jackson, St. James, MN, Mason City, IA, Rochelle, IL, and Chillicothe, MO. She graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis in 1950. She then attended the University of MN and graduated with a degree in Home Economics/Art in 1954. On September 18, 1955, she was united in marriage to Dr. Roy Hendricks. Together, they moved to Janesville where they started a veterinary practice. She was the secretary and receptionist at the practice up until Roy's death in 1983. She then started working at specialty women's clothing stores including Fawbusch's, the Dahl House, and Mr E. and Me. She was also a Mary Kay Consultant for several years.

Judy was an active member of the Janesville United Methodist Church. She also loved to volunteer. She was instrumental in starting the local Girl Scout Troop and was a troop leader, area chairman, and council board director for the Girl Scouts. She hosted and organized Community Prayer Gatherings and neighborhood Bible Coffees. She was also involved in Prison Fellowship Ministry, Meals on Wheels, and TeleCare. Judy was a member of the Lady Eights Bridge Club and loved attending Holy Spirit retreats in the area. She also loved traveling, singing in the church choir and community chorus (known as The Celebration Singers), and spending time with her friends and family. Judy had a creative gift for fashion, decorating, designing, calligraphy, and so much more.

Judy is survived by her children, Holly (Jerome) Witt of Alexandria, Heidi (Marshal) Crane of Apple Valley, and Scott (DeAnna) Hendricks of New Prague; grandchildren, Zach (Kate) Witt, Forrest (Kelli) Witt, Taylor (Jessica) Witt, Mitch (Anne) Berndt, Paul (Carrie) Berndt, Sarah Berndt, Jenny Hendricks, Alex Hendricks, and Katie Hendricks; 18 great grandchildren; brothers, Jon (Juanita) Mansmith and Gene (Laurie) Mansmith; sisters-in-law, Linda Hendricks and Lois Hendricks; and by many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers-in-law, Robert and Ralph Hendricks; and mother and father-in-law, Edwin and Clara Hendricks.

The joy of the Lord was Judy's strength, even through her 12 year journey with Alzheimer's. Her prayer for all of us would be that we also would experience, live, and share the joy of Jesus.

Memorials are preferred to Kingsway Retirement Living Memory Care Unit in Belle Plaine or to the Janesville United Methodist Church.
