Joseph Stegmaier

Joseph E. "Joe" Stegmaier, age 84 of Madison Lake, died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Mayo Health System-Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 19th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville with Fr. Peter Klein, Celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Madison Lake.

Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. prior to services, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred. Funeral arrangements are being completed by Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home of Janesville.

Joseph Edward was born May 3, 1928 in Mankato, Minnesota to Edward and Mary (Forrester) Stegmaier. He attended St. Clair Area Country Schools. Joe served in the United States Army from May of 1949 until his honorable discharge in January of 1950. He was united in marriage to Catherine Mary Keltgen on August 22, 1953 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. Joe and Catherine resided in Eagle Lake until moving to their farm on the north side of Eagle Lake in 1969. That same year Joe started his company, Stegmaier Construction, which he operated until retiring in 1980. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake, and longtime member and past commander of the Eagle Lake American Legion Post# 617. Joe enjoyed stock car racing, flying, fishing, hunting, and trapping.

He is survived by his children, Joan (Tom) Madsen of Edina, Joseph (Cheryl) Stegmaier of Rochert, and Anne (Lonnie) Frank of Eagle Lake; sisters, Lucy Kozitza of North Mankato, and Rose Meese of Palmyra, VA; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Catherine in October of 2002, and his son, Frank in December 1978.

Casketbearers are Joe's grandchildren, Tim Madsen, Allen Madsen, David Madsen, Amanda Stegmaier, Frank Stegmaier, Apryl Frank Radel, Rachel Frank Beyer and Ryan Frank.
