Joseph Francis Jarvis passed away gently October 12, 2023 after fighting cancer, the battle of his life.
He was born July 21, 1963 to Harlan Francis and Rita (Otto) Jarvis. Joe was the seventh child of nine raised at the Jarvis home in Faribault. The home was lovingly called "The 7th Street Hatchery."
Joe entered the world during a tumultuous time - the buildup of the Vietnam War, civil unrest and assassination of President Kennedy.
Despite the unrest in the country, Joe had a carefree childhood playing with friends at Lincoln recreation, White Sands pool and in the neighborhood. He enjoyed fishing, collecting agates and going to Twins games with his Dad and brothers.
While camping over 28 years ago, Joe met a dark-haired beauty named Julie Hermans. They fell in love and were married April 5, 1995.
Joe's personal attributes were many. He was loyal, caring, appreciative, and generous to a fault. He was fiercely protective of his family, yet had a great sense of humor like "Dog Jaw," the poor unsuspecting Mayo doctors!
Joe loved collecting art and antiques, cooking, grilling, bonfires, and playing euchre - anything family, especially his Pomeranian dogs, four-legged family.
He was a hard worker and held a variety of jobs over the years. A jack of all trades, from cook to carpenter, once co-owner of Jarvis Construction LLC.
Joe knew hard times, health issues and loss of his daughter and her unborn child.
Undaunted, he and wife Julie remained kind and giving people. When he was diagnosed with cancer, the love they freely gave returned to them. The seven siblings banded together in support. Joe left this world overwhelmed by the love of friends and family, hospice, doctors and nurses, and the Faribault community.
A funeral service to celebrate Joe's life will be Friday, October 20 at 6:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour, 515 2nd Avenue NW, Faribault, MN 55021. A reception follows the service.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Harlan and Rita Jarvis, daughter Shannon Hermans, her unborn child, and sister Janelle LaCanne.
Joe will be greatly missed by his wife Julie Jarvis, daughter Jessica Hermans, grandchildren Chloe and Jameson Clammer. He is survived by siblings Theresa (Ryan) Friesen, Jerome (Jacqueline) Jarvis, Laurie Murray, Jeffrey (Dorothy DeJong) Jarvis, Rochelle (Robert) Cloutier, Rebecca Lambert, Joan Jarvis and many nephews and nieces.
Blessed be his memory.
