Joseph F. Hagert, age 90 of Mankato, formerly of Wabasso, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Colony Court in Waseca. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 16th at 10:30 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso with Fr. Todd Peterson, Celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Anne's Church Cemetery. Joseph's family will greet friends on Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at St. Anne's Catholic Church. McRaith Funeral Home of Waseca is handling arrangements. Joseph Frank was born on September 12, 1918 near Wabasso, Minnesota in New Avon Township, Redwood County to Joseph and Catherine (Frank) Hagert. At the age of 5 Joe lost his mother. He attended Redwood County country school. Joe worked as a farm hand until entering military service in the United States Army. He served in the European Theater during WWII as a corporal in Battery B-Anti Aircraft Unit. Joe was a machine-gun crewman in Rhineland Central Europe during his time overseas. Following his honorable discharge he moved to Mankato. Over the years Joe had worked as for Archer-Daniels-Midland Co., and later as custodian for Sears Roebuck and Co. in Mankato, then for many years at North Mankato City Hall. Joe moved to Colony Court in Waseca in September of 2005. Joe enjoyed fishing, as well as country and old time music. He is survived by his two sisters Agnes Eichten of Sleepy Eye and Lorraine Schreyer of Bloomington; by his half sister Genette Hawcraft of Greeley, CO; by his half brothers Harold Hagert of Remsen, IA, and Donald Hagert of Decorah, IA; by his sister-in-law Eunice Hagert of Austin, TX, and his brother-in-law Lloyd Jelleberg of Bottineau, ND; by his niece Cyrilla (Max) Lande of Waseca and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; by 3 brothers, 4 sisters, 2 half sisters and 2 half brothers.
