José Miguel "Joey" Guerra, age 32, of Minneapolis and formerly of Waseca, died suddenly on Saturday, August 16, 2014 as a result of a bicycling accident.
A Celebration of Joey's Life will be held at the McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca on Saturday, August 23, 2014 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., followed by interment at the Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
In lieu of flowers, Joey's family request you buy a bike helmet and donate it to your family or friends in his memory.
Joey was generous in life, as well as in death by being an organ donor to help others in need.
José Miguel, the son of Gustavo and Sheila (Ruedas) Guerra, was born on August 2, 1982 in Brownsville, Texas. He attended high school in Brownsville for a short period before his family moved to Waseca in 2000, where he attended Waseca High School. Following high school, Joey worked at Itron before moving to Minneapolis where he was a chef at various restaurants. He enjoyed bicycling, photography, and playing the bass guitar and drums.
He is survived by his daughter, Emily Guerra of Waseca; his parents, Gustavo and Sheila Guerra of Waseca; his sister, Vanessa Guerra of Minneapolis; his girlfriend, Emma Monroe of Minneapolis; his grandmother, Francisca Ruedas of Brownsville, his half brothers and sisters, Humberto Guerra, Gerardo Guerra, Maria Elena Guerra all of H. Matamoros Tamps, Mexico, and Gustavo A. Guerra of Le Center, MN; and by many other relatives and friends.
