John Thamez

John Thamez, age 79 of Owatonna, died on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Traditions of Owatonna.   Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 6th at 1:00 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home in Waseca with Deacon Pat Fagan, and Fr. Marty Schaefer, officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Waseca.   Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home in Waseca, and will continue on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the hour of service.   John was born on February 20, 1930 in Cameron, Texas to Manuel and Lenora (Uresti) Thamez. During his youth John's family worked seasonally between Texas and Minnesota. In 1949 he began his career with Birds Eye in Waseca. He married Shirley Young, and they later divorced. In 1964 started working for Owatonna Canning Factory. John moved to Owatonna in 1970. He married Bonnie Matejeck, and they later divorced. In 1993 he was united in marriage to Konny Condon. John retired in 1995, and he and Konny have continued to reside in Owatonna. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna, and the Owatonna Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 3924. John enjoyed collecting miniature toy cars, driving in the country, and was an avid pro wrestling fan.     He is survived by his wife Konny of Owatonna; by his children Delores "Lori" and Robert Ferry of Waseca, Debra (Lynch) and Scott Battenfeld of Brooklyn Park, and Richard and Jane Thomez of Waseca; by 9 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild; by his siblings, Tony and Roberta Thamez of Waseca, Steve and Ann Thamez of Rochester, Valentine Thamez of Hanover, PA, Robert and Sue Thamez of Hanover, PA, David and Linda Thamez of Abilene, TX, Tommy Thamez of Hanover, PA, Olivia and Frank Turriabartez of Waco, TX, Rita and Chano Martinez of Rotan, TX, Joe and Paula Thamez of Waco, TX; by many nieces and nephews.    He was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers Louis and Gary, and his sister Anna.
