The McLoone Family will greet friends on Thursday, April 7th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca. Interment will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery, Waseca. At 5:45 p.m. John's family will have a short tribute in his honor. John Henry McLoone IV was born in Waseca, Minnesota on May 28, 1939. He spent most of his life here except for time spent serving his country in the Army in Korea, after training in language school near Monterey, California; and for the time spent in college at St. John's, St. Thomas, the University of Minnesota, and the William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, where he received his law degree. After his birth, his parents undertook efforts to compensate for that decision by giving birth to seven more children. His brothers and sisters called him Johnny; others referred to him by many different names. He was an avid practitioner of pranks and held an erroneous belief in his ability to tell funny jokes, usually being the only one laughing. Nevertheless, he kept trying. His passion for the law, his love of the competition in the courtroom marked his successful career as a lawyer. He was skilled at his craft, and deeply loved his work. His zeal for the courtroom was marred slightly by his long-time habit of wearing cowboy boots, to compensate for his short stature. He also served as City Attorney for Waseca, and was legal counsel for Steele-Waseca Electric Cooperative. His father's legacy was helping people through the law. His mother's legacy was love of literature and poetry, and skill in cooking. He loved attending plays and concerts and football games. His hobby was photography, although his children suffered back and shoulder injuries carrying around all his equipment during their many trips. He is survived by his children: Keather, Anchorage; Cathleen, granddaughter Cassia, Sioux Falls; Danielle (John) Theis, grandsons Christopher and Hunter, Owatonna; Meaghan, Minneapolis; John, St. Paul; and Mary Kathleen, Minneapolis. His brothers and sisters: Jerry (Ann), Minneapolis; Mary Kaye Perrin (Don Nelson), Winona; Mike (Nancy), Mankato; Margo, Woodstock, NY; Annie McLoone and Tom Moncrieff, Winona; Patricia; Steve, St. Louis Park. Many nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention. He had a close and fond connection with his father's sister, Gert Brozik, and her daughters JoAnne and Mary. He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge John and Kay (Daly) McLoone. We affectionately called him "Johnny Excess." He lived his life with great passion. We will miss his laugh, his love, even his jokes. He was our father, our grandfather, our brother, our uncle, our caring friend. He loved this Gaelic Blessing: "May those that love us, love us. And those that don't love us, may God turn their hearts. And if He doesn't turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles, so we'll know them by their limping". Thank you for the time we had together!
