John Hoban

John E. Hoban Jr., age 90, of Faribault, died Monday, May 2, 2011 at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault.    Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church (139 Mercy Drive) in Faribault with the Rev. Erik Lundgren officiating. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault.      Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.    In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Faribault Area Hospice.    Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.    John E. Hoban Jr., the son of John E. Sr. and Olga (Heyer) was born on March 12, 1921 in Faribault. He attended Faribault Senior High School and enlisted in the United States Merchant Marines.  While enrolled, he was aboard the SS Clarence Darrow (Liberty Ship) and later received honorable discharge on November 29, 1945. On October 23, 1948, John was united in marriage to Lucille M. Kenney at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. They enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Roberds Lake in Faribault. Lucille later preceded him in death on July 11, 1999. John held a life-long career at Northern States Electric (now Xcel Energy) as a linesman. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing hockey on the first hockey team in Rice County and continued to watch all levels throughout the years.      John is survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.    John was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucille, his three brothers Roland (Gladys), Clarence (Margie) and Donald.
