Joeann Salzwedel

JoeAnn Salzwedel, age 82, of Faribault, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at the Birchwood Cottages in Owatonna, MN, surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault.

Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and on Monday for one hour prior to the services at the church.

The family prefers that memorials be directed to Divine Mercy Catholic Church or St. Croix Hospice in memory of JoeAnn.

JoeAnn Beverly was born on August 8, 1933 in Faribault to Joseph and Anna (McIntyre) DeMars. She attended Bethlehem Academy and was married to Donald F. Salzwedel on September 4, 1950 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. JoeAnn worked as a waitress for many years at the Evergreen Knoll and Faribault Hotel. She also worked at Mercury Minnesota. JoeAnn had a great love of children and operated her own in-home day care service for many years. She enjoyed caring for her flowers, and canning and cooking from her vegetable garden. She and Don loved to dance and also volunteered their time delivering meals-on-wheels. JoeAnn dedicated a great amount of time to her church, making prayer shawls, and was a Eucharistic Minister and Befriender for many years.

She is survived by her four children, Daniel F. Salzwedel of Minneapolis, Steven K. Salzwedel of Faribault, Gary J. (Barbara) Salzwedel of Faribault, and Robin S. (Fern D.) Salzwedel of Owatonna; three grandchildren, Tessa M. (Dave) Steger of Victoria, MN, Adam D. (Carrie) Salzwedel of Golden Valley, MN, and Kayla J. Salzwedel of Faribault; two great grandchildren, Mason D. Weber and McKenna L. Steger; sisters-in-law, Donna Mae (Charles) Morgan and Lillian DeMars, both of Faribault; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald on October 17, 2012; parents; six brothers, and six sisters.
