Jo Holmblad "Grandma Jo", age 83 of Faribault, died Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the District One Hospital in Faribault, surrounded by her family following an extended illness.

At her request, no services will be held.

Arrangements are with the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.

Joan Rae was born on June 13, 1931 in Madison, SD to William and Martha (Gunderson) Cook. She graduated from Madison High School. Jo married Robert Holmblad on July 15, 1961 in Sioux Falls, SD. Jo's passion and love for children allowed her to become Grandma Jo to dozens of kids and their families, some of which were the: Sirek, Barta, Kline, Radtke, Schultz, Wiebens, Fitzpatrick, Petricka, Chris Jirek, Silkey, Francis, Jasinski, and Nelson families. Equal to her love of children was her love of dogs and many found their way home to her doorstep. Jo was a great supporter of the Shieldsville area and participated in founding the Lake Mazaska Monster Days. She and Bob enjoyed snowmobiling together with many friends.

She is survived by her son, Daniel (Mary Ann) Hough of Kelseyville, CA; granddaughters, Danielle (Juan) Borrayo and Janine (Adam) Behsmann, both of California; great grandson, Samuel; adopted daughter, Lisa Petricka of Faribault; numerous nieces and nephews including, Valerie "Durty Bird" Holmblad (Mike Hullett) and Nancy Holmblad, both of Faribault; sisters, Evie Struwe of SD and Ellen Bontje of Iowa; sister-in-law, Fran Holmblad of Faribault; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents; father and mother-in-law, Carl and Ruth Holmblad; sister, Elizabeth (Bill) Barret; nephew, Tony Holmblad; sister-in-law, Susan (Ralph) Schoonover; and brothers-in-law, Louie Bontje and Roy "Bud" Struwe.
