Janice Westphal

Janice M. Westphal, age 70 of Janesville, died on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Immanuel St. Joseph's-Mayo Health System in Mankato.   Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Dr. Larry Griffin officiating. Interment will be in the Alma City Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home and Crematory in Janesville, and will continue on Monday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. Janice Marie was born on November 19, 1939 in Watertown, Minnesota to Arthur and Viola (Precht) Manthe. Jan was baptized on 12/9/39 in Watertown, Minnesota, and confirmed on 5/31/53 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Alma City. During high school Jan began working at Koehler Pharmacy in Janesville. She graduated from Pemberton High School in 1957. On June 30th that same year she was united marriage to Robert P. Westphal at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Alma City. Jan completed cosmetology school in Mankato, and operated Jan's Fashion Tress in Janesville for many years. She was very active in the Janesville Community where she was currently serving her 2nd term on, the Janesville Nursing Home Board as well as the Janesville Housing and Redevelopment Board (Chairman). She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. For the last 15 years Jan offered her expertise as a beautician to Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville. Jan enjoyed the outdoors, and playing cards. At the center of her life was the time she spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She is survived by her husband Robert and her sons Mark (Marla) Westphal, and Joel (Debbie) Westphal, all of Janesville; by her daughter Kim (Gary) Grosskopf of Phoenix, AZ; by her 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; by her brothers Ronald (Marion) Manthe of Benton Harbor, MI, Dale (Janet) Manthe of Heidelberg, MN, and Dean (Gloria) Manthe of Antigo, WI; by her sister-in-law Rosy Manthe of Mahnomen, MN; by many nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her son Willis Westphal and brother Lyle Manthe. Casketbearers are: Jason Westphal, Clinton Westphal, Dylan Westphal, Peter Manthe, Todd Manthe, and Jeff Manthe. Honorary casketbearers are Jan's grandchildren and nieces & nephews.
