James F. "Jim" Janovsky, age 84, of Faribault, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at his home following an extended illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, in Faribault. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Organization.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to services.
The family prefers that memorials be directed to the River Bend Nature Center or Allina Hospice in memory of Jim.
James Francis, the son of Clayton and Elizabeth (Kotek) Janovsky, was born on July 29, 1931 in Montgomery, MN. He attended Montgomery High School and graduated with the class of 1950. Following high school, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge he returned to Montgomery and on February 5, 1955 he was united in marriage to Arlene Malecha at the Incarnation Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Arlene preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 2005. Jim worked for over 39 years at McQuay International and retired as a coil inspector. Jim and Arlene enjoyed traveling to different parts of the country. He enjoyed working around his house and yard, watching football and baseball, coin collecting and spending time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion Post 43 in Faribault.
He is survived by his four children, Kathy (Juan) Porras, Joan (Eric) Kaiser, Steve Janovsky and special friend Pam Smith, and Dan (Mary) Janovsky, all of Faribault; by 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; by his brother, Joe (Lena) Janovsky of Montgomery, MN; by four sisters, Mary (Leo) Kukacka of Hastings, MN, Judy Whipps of LeCenter, MN, Dorothy Malz of Shakopee, MN and Diane Grabinger of Lonsdale, MN and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and four sisters, Phyllis Baldwin, Jean Williams, Catherine Martinson and Sally Zimmerman.
