James Denny

June 23, 1942 — November 4, 2022

Spicewood, TX

James Lawrence Denny, age 80, of Spicewood, TX, passed away suddenly on Friday, November 4, 2022, in Elko New Market, MN.

James Lawrence was born on June 23, 1942, in Minneapolis, MN, to Lawrence James and Aasta (Brekstad) Denny.  He grew up and attended school through the 9th Grade in North Minneapolis.  Jim worked for Consolidated Freightways for 35 years.  He was a career truck driver that was obsessed with safety and finished his career with more than seven million accident-free miles.  He took part in the annual State and National Truck Rodeo where he won the State Champion several times and went on to Nationals taking The National Championship in New Orleans in 1995. He also enjoyed scuba diving in Acapulco and Cozumel, Mexico, rock hunting and polishing, photography, and metal detecting. One of his great joys was to pull out his guitar to play and sing with his friends.  He enjoyed going on hikes searching for arrowheads and collected Native American blankets, jewelry, and pottery.   He had recently moved to Minnesota from Austin, TX living with his son, Lawrence and Lawrence's fiancé, Ann to be closer to family and see his grandchildren.  Jim was a wonderful soul who would help anyone in need.  A consummate professional who treated those around him with respect, a smile, and a solid handshake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence James and Aasta Denny; his brother, Richard; and his sister, Mary.

He leaves behind his longtime girlfriend, Delores Nesteby; his five children, Kelly (Mark Bergstein), Lawrence (Ann), Troy, Sheline (Kaiser), and Cheryl (Tony) Belisle; six grandchildren, Jack, Georgia and Charlie Denny, Tyler and Sarah Belisle, Josh Denny and two great grandchildren Sophia and Brandon, many friends, including longtime buddy, Dale Duckett.

A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date.
