James R. Burnett, age 74, of Omaha, NE, husband of Mary Burgess Burnett, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Reflections Unit at Three Links Care Center in Northfield, MN, surrounded by his family following an extended illness.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory in Faribault. Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
James Raymond was born on June 30, 1942, in Omaha to Milton and Mildred (Bessey) Burnett. Jim graduated from Blair High School and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960-64, followed by two years in the Reserves. Following his discharge from the Marines, he started his 35-year career with Lozier Corporation in Omaha. Jim was a brilliant man, having the ability to teach himself the knowledge necessary to work as a top engineer at Lozier. He was married to Nellie Hoogendoorn in 1967. Together they raised three children until her passing in 1998. He later married Mary (Pahl) Burgess on September 2, 2000. Jim excelled at his passions, which included woodworking and photography. He also enjoyed travelling.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Burgess Burnett of Faribault; children, Jill (Eric) Martens of Farmington, MN, Jim (Anne) Burnett of Omaha, and John Burnett (Brenna Griffin) of Cedar Falls, IA; step-children, Teresa (Jamie) Glover of Burnsville, MN, Joe (Meghan) Burgess of Maple Grove, MN, and Erin O'Donnell of Faribault; grandchildren, Morgan, Mia, Elaina Mary, and Julia, Connor and Sophia, Eleanor and Tess, Joe, Meg, Payton, Alex, and George, Chloe, Griffin, and Will, and Lilly and Sonny; brother, Bill Burnett of Omaha; sister, Susan (Gary) Dahl of Alexandria, VA; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie; parents, Milton and Mildred; and daughter in infancy, Elizabeth.
