James Bernard was born on July 23, 1933 to Timothy and Mary (Mathews) Adams in Freedom Township, Waseca County, Minnesota, on the farm that has been in his family since 1868. On November 8, 1955, he entered the United States Army and served his country until his honorable discharge on August 19, 1957. Jim spent his life farming the land he cherished. On December 27, 1991, he was united in marriage to Doris J. VerHey at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waldorf. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waldorf, and the Waldorf American Legion Thomas Madden Post #587 serving on the honor guard for many years.

Jim was a simple man and enjoyed life to the fullest. He never missed the opportunity to have breakfast at the Hitching Post with friends and always enjoyed reminiscing the "good old days" over a cup of coffee and a piece of pie. Most of all, Jim truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Jim is survived by sisters, Evelyn (Russell) Devine of Watertown, SD, and Mary (Robert) Meurer of Mankato; brother, Donald (Rosalie) Adams of Rapid City, SD; sister-in-law, Vernell Adams of Watertown; many nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, friends, and his faithful companion, Buttons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris on May 23, 2013; sister, Eileen Atchley; brothers. John, Raymond and Ambrose Adams; brother-in-law, James Atchley; sisters-in-law, Genevieve and Judy Adams.

The family would like to thank Fr. Klein and the wonderful people of St. Joseph's Parish, and the caring community of Waldorf.
