Herbert E. Weber, age 71 of Elysian, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 19th at 10:30 A.M. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Elysian with Fr. Michael Ince, Celebrant. Interment with military honors will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. The Weber Family will greet friends on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Janesville, and will continue on Saturday morning for one hour prior to services at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred. Herbert Everett was born on October 3, 1940 to Mathew and Ione (Faltersack) Weber in Mankato, Minnesota. He attended grade school in Smiths Mill, and graduated from Janesville High School in 1958. After high school Herb worked as a carpenter for Ted Muetzel Construction in North Mankato. On June 1, 1963 he entered the United States Army Reserves and served his country until his honorable discharge on May 6, 1969. On June 27, 1964 he was united in marriage to Nancy C. Thayer at Immaculate Conception Church in Marysburg. Herb and Nancy raised their family and resided in Elysian their entire married life. He had been an insurance agent for over 40 years, starting his career with the Janesville State Bank, before owning and operating the Herb Weber Agency until his retirement in 2003. Herb was also a well known auctioneer. Herb and his brother Duane operated the Weber Auction Service for over 30 years. He was inducted into the Minnesota State Auctioneer Hall of Fame in January of 2008. Herb was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Elysian, and served as past president of the church council. He was a long time member and past commander of the Elysian American Legion Post #311, co-chaired the Sons of Legionnaires Charter, Children and Youth Officer, and Executive Director and and Color Guard Drill team member. Herb served his community as a 20 year member of the Elysian Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. He announced the Janesville Hay Daze Parade, Elysian 4th of July Parade, and the Lake Francis Fishing Contest for many years, and in 1999 was Grand Marshal of the Elysian 4th of July Celebration. Herb was a strong community supporter having served as Janesville Rotary International President, coached and managed the Elysian Little League, and served on the Elysian City Council. He was a member of the LeSueur County Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, Deer Hunter's Association, Minnesota Sheriff's Association, National Rifle Association, Minnesota Auctioneers Association, and the Independent Insurance Agents of Minnesota. Herb enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Nancy of Elysian; his mother Ione Weber of Waterville; daughters Sally Schroer and children, Colton & Kaitlyn of Elysian; Sandy (Nowell) Schroer and son, Tristan of Janesville; son, Scott (Jenna) and children, Eva and Elynn of New Market; grandson, Spc Zachary Lantz of Ft. Bragg, NC; son-in-law, Patrick Satchell and children, Destiny and Melody of Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Duane (Jinny) Weber of Janesville; nephews, Don (Molly) Weber of Janesville & Jon (Michelle) Weber of Mankato: and nieces, Dawn (Krup) Krueger of Mankato & Chris (Brent) Konradi of Kasota; also many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Matt Weber; daughter Shelly Satchell; father & mother-in-law, George & Edna Thayer; and his sister-in-law Sally Baringer.
