Helen Fleckenstein

Helen G. Fleckenstein, age 96, of Portland, OR and formerly of Faribault, died Monday, November 10, 2008 at the Ironwood Holistic Care Home of Portland.    Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Elizabeth Chapel at the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour, with the Very Reverend James Zotalis, officiating. Interment will be held at the Maple Lawn Cemetery, Faribault.    Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.    Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault.    Helen was born on March 1, 1912 in Butterfield, MN to Tonnes and Anna (Anvick) Tonneson. She attended Butterfield High School and graduated with the class of 1930. After high school, Helen was a graduate of the St. Lucas Deaconess School of Nursing and received a Bachelor of Health Science Degree from the University of Minnesota Mankato. She married Alfred H. Fleckenstein in Faribault on September 17, 1938. Mr. Fleckenstein preceded her in death on December 31, 1979. Helen served as School Nurse for Faribault Public Schools until she retired in 1975, and was active in the Red Cross, the Visiting Nurse Association, and the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour in Faribault. Music was an important part of Helen's life. She was active in the Cathedral choir and a frequent soloist at civic functions in Faribault.    She is survived by her son Alfred Fleckenstein, and his wife Nina of Portland, Oregon.    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, Agnes, May, Cecelia and Marie and four brothers, Thomas, Oscar, Marshall and Arnold.
