Hedwig "Hedy" DeMars, age 83, of Faribault, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at her son's home in Owatonna. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 17, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church at Sacred Heart in Faribault. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and on Monday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Hedwig Marie Kubes, the daughter of John and Mary (Tupy) Kubes, was born on September 1, 1925 in Scott County, MN and was raised in the New Prague area. She was married to Alcid W. DeMars Sr. on September 9, 1946 at the Sacred Heart Church in Faribault. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1997. Hedy was a homemaker for much of her married life. She also worked at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault for 10 years as a housekeeper. She enjoyed baking and making crafts, including knitting and crocheting. Hedy cherished her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by six children, Mary Ann Regitschnig of Austin, MN, Gerald (Barbara) DeMars of Owatonna, Rebekah (Douglas) Loehrer of Freehold, NJ, Alcid Jr. (Barbara) DeMars of Owatonna, Lynne (Paul) Sanderson of Waterville, and Randy (Shelly) DeMars of Faribault; son-in-law, August Borchert of Warsaw; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Ben Kubes of Faribault, and Ralph Kubes of Wyoming, MN; two sisters-in-law, Eileen Kubes and Ramona Kubes, both of Faribault; brother-in-law, Leonard Trahan of Faribault; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alcid DeMars Sr.; parents; daughter, Pamela Borchert; grandson, Adam Joseph DeMars; two sisters, Genevieve Trahan and Mary Paquette; and five brothers, Gilbert, John, Joseph, Blaze and Florian Kubes. Memorials may be directed to Divine Mercy Catholic School, Faribault Area Hospice, Owatonna Area Hospice, or the choice of the donor in memory of Hedy.
