Harry Chin

Harry G. Chin, age 91, of Waseca, died peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at the Janesville Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca, with Rev. Roger Haug, Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca, officiating. Burial will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, Pennsylvania.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Harry was born Liang Cheng Yu on April 26, 1922 in Tai San province of Canton, China to Fong See and Liang Sing Sui. He was married to Yuet and had a daughter Fong Ngor (Susan).
He attended missionary school through the 8th grade. He fled China as a paper son and joined his father and younger brother in Chicago in 1939. His Americanized name became Harry Chin. Making his way to St. Paul, he learned English and worked at several Chinese restaurants and laundries. He married Laura Eubank on June 13, 1946. They raised their daughter Sheila and son Roger in eastside St. Paul and later in Roseville where the children graduated from Alexander Ramsey High School. Over the years Harry worked at the Port Arthur Café, the Canton Cafe, the Snelling Café, later called the House of Ming, Kee's Chow Mein, and the popular Nankin Café in downtown Minneapolis. Harry worked long hours six and seven days a week to support not only his immediate family, but to send money to all his relatives still in China. He never saw his mother again after leaving China, but assisted with helping his sister Yuen and her family, his brother Ying and his family, an uncle and his family-- all get to America.

Harry retired from the Nankin in 1987 and later moved to Maple Terrace in Waseca in 2000. After a fall in December 2010, he lived with his daughter Sheila for one year until moving to Colony Court in December 2011.

Harry is survived by an aunt, Ng Chun Hou Liang; by one sister Yuen (Chok) Chin, Boston; by sister-in-law Lucille Moy, Minneapolis; by sister-in-law Sue Mei Liang, Boston; by daughter Susan Ju, Philadelphia; daughter Sheila (Rick) Morris, Waseca, MN; son, Roger Chin, Lake Elmo, MN; by eight grandchildren--Donald (Rita) Ju, Steven (Debbie) Mark, Sue Lynn (Paul) Tom, Richard (Michelle) Ju, Sandy Ju, Eric (Lynn Embick) Morris, Andrea Morris, Erin (Matt) Becka; and 13 great-grandchildrena�"Anthony Mark, Priscilla Mark, Eric Mark, Kirsten Mark, Samantha Tom, Ethan Tom, Nathaniel Tom, Brendan Ju, Jessica Ju, Justin Ju, Dal Embick, Lizzy Embick, and Berit Emily Becka; and many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Yuet, second wife Laura; brother Cheng Ying, brother Fred Moy, two nieces; son-in-law, Ben Ju; and his lifelong friend Jack Wong.
