Gladys Meyer

Gladys M. Meyer, age 79, of Faribault, MN, passed away January 4, 2016, at Oakwood Hills in Faribault, following an extended illness.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Faribault with Pastor Craig Breimhorst officiating. Interment will be held at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault.

Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Arrangements are being completed with the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.

Gladys Marie, the daughter of Martin and Frances (Crist) Shanky, was born on April 21, 1936 in Farmington, MN. In October of 1962 she was united in marriage to Arthur Meyer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Together they owned and operated Northfield Cleaners for many years. Later Gladys would work in the laundry department at St. Lucas Care Center and also at Northstar Nursery. Gladys and Art also performed in their own band, The Faribault Lamplighter's, and performed at different venues. Art preceded her in death on February 11, 1998. Gladys enjoyed working in her gardens, especially the flower garden. She also enjoyed all animals, especially her dog Coco, and ducks, geese and all farm animals. She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church and a former member of the Faribault Eagles.

She is survived by her step children, John (Karen) Meyer of Waterville, MN, Arvilla Neff of Farmington, MN, Ramona (Richard) Fredrickson of Northfield, MN, Cynthia (Bernard) Caron and Pamela (William) Kirkpatrick, both of Faribault, MN; by two sisters, Helen Eul and Dave Parkin and Jeanette (Harold) Keilen, both of Faribault and by many nieces, nephews and step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers, Donald, Ralph and Richard Shanky.
