Gilbert L. Cake III, age 70, of Faribault, died suddenly on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at his home. Memorial services will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home and Crematory in Faribault, with Rev. Craig Breimhorst, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, Faribault, officiating. Interment will be at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association. Memorial visitation will be held on Monday for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Gilbert Laffayette Cake III, the son of Gilbert Jr. and Mary (Iredell) Cake, was born on May 4, 1940 in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Faribault High School and attended Mankato State University. He then served in the United States Army. Gilbert married Ann Severson on July 2, 1965 in Northfield, MN. She preceded him in death on December 5, 2000. He worked as a Technical Services Representative for Trane Corporation and Cramer Building Services. Gilbert had a passion for antique cars and was a member of the Sundowners Car Club. He also enjoyed hunting. He is survived by two children, Matt (Beth) Cake of Faribault and Leah (Rob) Sutherlin of Apple Valley, MN; four grandchildren, Dylan and Taylor Cake and Aiden and Bennett Sutherlin; brother, Bruce (Cindi) Cake of Faribault; niece, Wendi (David) Pavek of Northfield and nephew, Jefferson Cake of Faribault. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
