Gerald Heyer

Gerald A. Heyer, age 72 of Faribault, died Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Faribault following an extended illness.             Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault with the Rev. Kevin Finnegan, pastor officiating. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Kilkenny, MN, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association.             Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Wednesday from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to services.             The family prefers that memorials be directed to the Divine Mercy Catholic Church Building Fund or to the Faribault Area Hospice in memory of Gerry.             Gerald Allen Heyer, the son of Otto and Elsa (Lieder) Heyer, was born on August 5, 1937 in Faribault, MN. He attended Faribault High School and graduated with the class of 1955. Following high school he graduated from the Minnesota School of Business. On April, 18, 1959 he was united in marriage to Lorraine T. Stangler at St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny, MN. Mrs. Heyer preceded him in death on July 25, 1998. After their marriage Gerry served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962. Upon his discharge Gerry continued a 40 year career at the State Bank of Faribault serving in different capacities and retiring as a Senior Vice-President. Volunteering his time was a big part of Gerry's life and he was involved with many organizations including, the Faribault Jaycees, Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #889, Past Commander of the American Legion Post 43 and Past President of the River Bend Nature Center. Gerry also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, traveling, bird watching and spending time with all of his family.             He is survived by his three children, Greg (Angela) Heyer of Atlanta, GA, Gary Heyer of Chaska, MN and Marci (Brian) Schwen of Savage, MN; by 7 grandchildren, Dylan, Logan, Blake and Brennan Heyer and Mason, Tyler (T.J.) and Mallory Schwen; by two brothers, Bob Heyer of Mound, MN and Dave (Diane) Heyer of Faribault; by three sisters, Harriet Berghoff of Faribault, Jan Ebert of Des Moines, IA and Karen Murphy of Faribault and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.             He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four sisters, Adeline Ballenthin, Dorothy Rodamaker, Eleanor Casey Johnson and a sister in infancy and by four brothers, Roger, Harland, Darrell and Marvin Heyer.
