Gene E. Lamont, age 82 of Waseca, died Sunday, March 17, 2013 at his home.
Private family services will be held at a later date in the spring.
Arrangements are being completed by the McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca.
Gene Edward, the son of Lyle and Opal (Case) Lamont, was born on August 31, 1930 at the family farm in Waterville Township, Le Sueur County, MN. Gene served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from August 16, 1950 to October 3, 1952 when he was honorably discharged. On October 15, 1954 he was united in marriage to Irene T. Miller at the Sacred Heart Church Rectory in Waseca. After their marriage Gene worked at Bird's Eye in Waseca until 1964 when he began working in the Press Room at Brown Printing. He worked there until his retirement in 1993. Irene preceded him in death on June 3, 2005. Gene enjoyed spending time with his friends at different establishments in Waseca and also enjoyed gardening, playing cards and fishing.
He is survived by five children, Pam (Loren) Albin of Maplewood, MN, Doreen Lamont of Hampton, VA, David (Chris) Lamont of Owatonna, MN, Judy (John) Thomas of Dundas, MN and Charles Lamont of Albert Lea, MN; by 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; by five siblings, Ruth Nyquist of St. Clair, MN, Elmer (Irene) Lamont of Owatonna, MN, Rodney (Vi) Lamont of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Delia Montan of Fargo, ND and Iris (Richard) Reddeman of North Mankato, MN and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed to the Waseca VFW or Waseca American Legion in memory of Gene.
A gathering of family and friends to remember Gene will take place on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the American Legion Post 228 in Waseca from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
