Florence I. Spicer, age 85, of Faribault, died Thursday, February 5, 2009 at the Faribault Commons Care Center in Faribault.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault, with Pastor Joe Anderson, River Valley Church, officiating. Interment will be at the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Faribault.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and on Monday for one hour prior to the services.
Florence Idella Schultz, the daughter of Reinhold and Minnie (Saathoff) Schultz, was born on January 8, 1924 and was raised in Faribault. She married William Spicer on July 4, 1956 in Faribault. After she graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul, MN, she took some business courses and became a secretary in the Twin Cities until she returned to Faribault. Florence was a homemaker and caregiver. She was a member of the River Valley Church (Assemblies of God) and Salvation Army. She was a Salvation Army Silver Star Mother, which signifies that her daughter is a Salvation Army Officer. Florence enjoyed watching ballgames at Alexander Park and Twins games. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading, and helping at her church.
She is survived by two daughters, Diana (Jim) Amick of Keokuk, Iowa, and Shirley Spicer of Faribault; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; brother LeRoy Schultz of Boulder City, NV; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband William in 1982; parents; brother, George Schultz; three sisters, Lilly Wadekamper, Rosella Ives, and Violet Dettmer; seven step-sons, Frank, Earl, Lloyd, John, Dennis, Lyle, and Ralph Spicer; and two grandchildren, Randy and Douglas Spicer.
