Esther Hunt Winjum, age 89, of Faribault, MN, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2023, at Ivy Hill Senior Care in Faribault.

Esther Marcella, the daughter of William and Marcella (Pinc) Slavik was born on September 29, 1934 in Montgomery, MN.  She attended Faribault High School and graduated with the class of 1952.  On February 17, 1953 she was united in marriage to Eugene Hunt at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery.  Esther was married to Gene for 39 loving years and together they had eight children. Esther stayed at home to raise her children and care for Gene.  Together they enjoyed fishing, attending sporting events, and family was very important to them.  Gene passed away in 1992.

On August 25, 1997 Esther married Wayne Winjum at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault.  Esther enjoyed reading, going for long walks, traveling, attending grandkid’s sporting events, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, bowling, and coffee get togethers.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Wayne Winjum; by her children, Colleen Caron (Dan), Pat Hunt (Carla), Dan Hunt (Rose), Tim Hunt (Peggy Milewski), and Chris Hunt (Justine); daughter-in-law, Kathy Hunt; son-in-law, Greg Doherty; by Wayne’s children, Christa Swenson (Paul), Jodie Chappuis (George), Jane Hillesheim (Jason); 19 grandchildren, Holly Dyson (Brett), Nathan Hunt, Kelly Bauer (Jim), RaeAnn Vizina, Shannon Scheel (Rodney), Karissa Hunt (Chuck Reineke), Kayla Krenz (Allen), Kacie Hunt, Avery and Malia Hunt, Jason Ianfolla (Janelle), Justin’s wife (Maggie Hunt), Ashley Tonjum (Chris), Sydney Mulcahy (Sam), David Swenson (Clare Lillig), Patrick Swenson, Anna Blessing (Joey), Laura Hayton (Kyle), Mary Jane and Greta Hillesheim; 25 great grandchildren and one on the way; siblings, Ray Slavik (Nancy), Liz Remmey; and by many nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; son, Scott Hunt; daughters, Sheila Doherty, and Mary Hunt; daughter-in-law, Jan Hunt; grandson, Justin Hunt; parents, William and Marcella; and brother, Alvin Slavik.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault with Fr. Cory Rohlfing officiating.  Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery, Faribault.

Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Esther.

Arrangements are being completed with the Parker Kohl Funeral Home of Faribault.
