Ervin A. Freitag, age 83 of Janesville, died Friday, May 17, 2013 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 20th at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in St. Clair, with Rev. Matthew Grunewald officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday morning from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service at church.
In lieu of flowers memorials preferred. Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Janesville is handling arrangements.
Ervin Adolph was born on September 9, 1929 to John and Emma (Risto) Freitag in McPherson Township, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. He was baptized on October 6, 1929 and confirmed on April 18, 1943 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in St. Clair. Erv attended School District 29 and St. Clair High School. On June 26, 1955 he was united in marriage to Joan M. Nelson in Owatonna, Minnesota. Erv and Joan farmed in the St. Clair area until moving into Janesville in 1957. Over the years he was employed by the Fuller Brush Company, Joyce Implement of Smiths Mill and Lau Bros. of Janesville. In 1959 Erv attended DeVry Technical College in Chicago, Illinois graduating with a degree in electronics. After graduation Erv and Joan moved back to Waseca, he was then employed by Neste TV. For 23 years he owned and operated Erv's Radio & TV in Janesville, retiring in 1995. He was active in the Janesville Chamber of Commerce, the Janesville Rotary Club, and was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. In 1995 he was the Grand Marshall of the Janesville Hay Daze Parade. Erv was a longtime member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in St. Clair. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, glass leading, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Joan of Janesville; very special friends, Kent (Mary) Brolsma and their children Devin and Darrek of Pemberton; sisters, Lorraine Throldahl of Mankato and Elvera Hall of Janesville; brother-in-law, Darrell (Bev) Nelson of Albany, OR; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Anthony Throldahl and Stanley Hall; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ted and Helen Nelson.
Casket bearers are: Jerry Hall, Marcus Hall, Jon Hall, Eric Throldahl, David Throldahl, and Kent Brolsma.
