Elvin D. Witt age 77 of Janesville, died on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 24th at 11:00 am, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Dr. Larry Griffin officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Janesville Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville, and will continue on Saturday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to ISJ Hospice. Elvin Dale was born on April 28, 1933 to Victor and Irene (Ewert) Witt in Freedom Township, Waseca County, Minnesota. He was baptized on May 21, 1933 at Trinity Wilton Lutheran Church. On April 14, 1946 he was confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alma City. He attended District 50 country school, and Waldorf High School. Elvin enlisted in the United States Army April 19, 1954. On June 25, 1954 he was united in marriage to Norma Ann Mittelsteadt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Norma and Elvin lived in Kentucky while he served in the Army. He was honorably discharged from military service on April 18, 1956. Elvin was a lifelong farmer, and he and Norma resided on their family farm after returning from Kentucky. He worked for various businesses in the Janesville area including, Blasing Electric, Stoldt Construction, and Smiths Mill Implement. Elvin was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, the Janesville American Post # 281, and served on the Alton Township board as Supervisor for 32 years. He enjoyed playing cards, shaking dice and woodworking. Elvin thoroughly enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Norma of Janesville; by his three son's Jerome (Holly) Witt of Morris, Dennis (Diane) Witt of Janesville, and Jeff (Holly) Witt of Camby, IN; by his three daughters Mary Ann (Terry) Clayton of Centerville, SD, Julie (Matt) Shuey of Farmington, and Dawn Witt (Dan Riley) of Minneapolis; by 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; by his brother Donald (Shirley) Witt of Janesville, and his sisters Darlene Witt of Waseca and Annie Recknor of Wells; and by many nieces nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Irene Witt; and his brother Orville Witt. Honorary bearers are Elvin's grandchildren: Zachary Witt, Forrest Witt, Taylor Witt, Jacob Witt, Alyssa Witt, Jeremiah Clayton, Joshua Clayton, Sadie Shuey, and Tyler Shuey.
