Elmer James was born on November 9, 1929 in Faribault, MN to George and Mary (Kasparek) David. He graduated from Medford High School with the class of 1947. On November 14, 1950, Elmer married his high school sweetheart Donna Mae Lee at the parsonage at GOL Lutheran Church in Kenyon, MN. He was a lifelong farmer in Walcott Township, Rice County. He and Donna took pride in caring for the animals on their farm, giving them plenty space and had respect for every living creature. In addition to being a farmer, Elmer was a devoted husband and family man. Inheriting the traits of his parents, Elmer continued the tradition of helping others in need, putting them first with no regard to himself. Elmer had a great passion for music. He started entertaining at age 14 and thoroughly enjoyed playing in Paul’s Little Band for over 40 years. Their band had a tremendous following, playing at many different venues. The remaining portion of his career he spent playing in the Jolly Polka Band, which he also enjoyed. He was a longtime member of the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Faribault Moose Lodge 2098. Elmer and Donna devoted themselves to serving in many different chairs for the Eagles and Eagle’s Auxiliary, attending many conventions. For many years Elmer sang as a member of the Eagle’s Ritual Team, competing at conventions and singing at numerous visitations for members and friends who had passed away.
He is survived by his children, Rick (Laurie) David of Faribault, and Mary (Jeff) David-Parker of Medford, MN; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; and his parents, George and Mary.
The family would like to thank the staff of Faribault Senior Living and Brighton Hospice for the tremendous care they provided for Elmer.
