Elizabeth "Betty" DuChene, age 86, of Faribault, MN, passed away suddenly on October 15, 2014 at home in Faribault Senior Living.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Interment will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault.
Memorial visitation will be held on Monday from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Arrangements are with the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.
Elizabeth Anna was born on March 1, 1928, in Hazelwood, MN to Albert and Gertrude (DeMan) Smisek. She attended country school. She worked as a waitress at Wimpy's where she met William L. DuChene. They were married on August 11, 1948 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Faribault. She then worked at Swifts in Faribault candling eggs. Betty and Bill were a distributor of Land O' Lakes Creamery products for 15 years. She then worked at Robinson's Greenhouse and the Flower Cart. In 1972, Betty started her career of over 30 years of employment with Nelson's SuperValu. She was a member of the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagle's Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed playing cards, fishing, camping, embroidery, and caring for her flower garden. Most of all, she treasured her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Dennis (Rita) DuChene of Faribault and their children, Mark (Sarah) DuChene and great grandchildren, Marin and William, Eric (Allie) DuChene and great granddaughters, Maddie and Bella, and Daniel (Kate) DuChene; daughter, Joyce (David) Anderson of Apple Valley and their children, Matthew Anderson and Kristin (Dan) Kapaun and great granddaughters, Jenna and Bailey; and son-in-law, Chuck Pettipiece of Mankato and his children, Ryan (Sara) Pettipiece and great granddaughter, Abby, and Adam (Shannon) Pettipiece and great grandchildren, Peyton and J.D.; brother, Leonard (Ida) Smisek of Austin; sister, Rose Marie Scott of Faribault; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents; son, Mark Albert DuChene; daughter, Diane Marie Pettipiece; siblings, Sylvester, Gertrude, Agnes, Joseph, Albert, and Irene.
A special thank you to the staff at Faribault Senior Living for the outstanding care they provided for Betty while she resided there.
Memorials may be directed to the Breast Cancer Society or the ALS Society in memory of Betty.
