Edward J. Matejcek, age 96, of Faribault, MN, died peacefully on February 19, 2025, at Mill City Senior Living in Faribault.
Edward Joseph, the son of Frank and Lucretia (Lambert) Matejcek, was born on June 14, 1928, in Faribault. He attended Immaculate Conception grade school and graduated from Bethlehem Academy High School with the class of 1946. He attended St. John’s University and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1947-1949. Ed was married to Evelyn Begin on August 29, 1950, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. Ed joined his father in business with Matejcek Implement and owned the business from 1948 – 1985. Ed loved farming and was able to farm from 1980 – 2004. Ed and Evelyn were involved in the initiation and were very active with the Day Activity Center in Rice County. He enjoyed living on the lake, skiing and tennis, and staying active in retirement in Arizona during the winter months. Throughout his life, Ed always had a great sense of humor and a boisterous infectious laugh.
He is survived by his children, Ann Matejcek, Mary Matejcek, Frank Matejcek, Jane Cashin (Rick), Rita Matejcek, Stephen Matejcek, and Paul Matejcek; grandchildren, Matthew Cashin, Daniel Cashin, Brian Cashin, Joe Matejcek, Shanna Matejcek Filzen (Aaron), Janelle Matejcek Caprarola (Brian), and Blake Matejcek; great grandchildren, William Cashin, Elijah Cashin, Pia Filzen, Becket Filzen, and August Filzen; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; son, Matthew Matejcek; parents, Frank and Lucretia; and sisters, Mary Kay Murray, and Loraine Mulligan.
Private family services will be held. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault.
Memorials may be directed to the Rice County Day Activity Center in memory of Ed.
