Dwayne Chambers

September 8, 1934 — June 3, 2016

Dwayne E. Chambers Sr., age 81, of Oakdale, MN, passed away June 3, 2016, at his home following an extended illness.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour in Faribault, with Rev. Henry Doyle, officiating. Interment with military honors will be at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Memorial visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory in Faribault on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home.

Dwayne Erwin was born on September 8, 1934, in Leola, SD to Adrian and Christine (Gudvangen) Chambers. He attended Northfield High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. Dwayne was united in marriage to Mavis Ennis on August 2, 1957, in Mason City, Iowa. He was a truck driver his entire career. Dwayne drove as an independent over the road truck driver until his family grew and his desire to be home with them led him to drive for local companies. Upon retirement, he and Mavis wintered in Arizona for many years where he had a tremendous circle of friends. He also became an avid golfer and enjoyed woodworking. Many years ago, he accepted Christ, which made an incredible impact on his life. He prayed a lot and was respected by many people who often sought him out for guidance. He was very active at the Cathedral serving often as a lay reader.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mavis Chambers of Oakdale, MN; children, Dwayne Jr. (Mary) Chambers of Garner, Iowa, Jeffrey (Rachel) Chambers of Faribault, Jeanelle (Dennis) Gray of White Bear Lake, MN, and Glen (Lisa) Chambers of Eagan, MN; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; siblings, Gwen Kastner of West Salem, WI, Richard (Suzanne) Larson of Morgan, MN, and Gabriel Larson of Spring Lake, MN; brother-in-law, Dick Rasmussen of Northfield, MN; sister-in-law, Laurie Chambers of West Salem, WI; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Christine; sister, Betty Rasmussen; and brothers, Dale and Keith Chambers.
