Douglas Johnson

Douglas H. Johnson, age 88 of Faribault, MN, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at his home following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the First English Lutheran Church in Faribault with Rev. Mark Johnson, Pastor officiating. Interment will be held at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault.

Visitation will be held at the new location of Parker Kohl Funeral Home, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N., on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to services.

Douglas H. Johnson, was born Sept. 12, 1929 in Jamestown, NY to Richard A. and Margaret (Kraft) Johnson. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1947. He was drafted to the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War from May 1951 to February 1952 as a medic with the 5th Regimental Combat Team, 24th Infantry Division, and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. After his honorable discharge, he enrolled in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Colorado graduating in 1957 with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy. In Oct. of 1958 he moved to Minnesota where he worked for Poirer Pharmacy. In 1966, he was employed by Red Owl Pharmacy, which later was acquired by Snyder Drug where he was employed until his retirement in 1996. In retirement he continued to work part-time until he fully retired in 2011. After a stellar 53 year career in a job he loved, he was blest to work with great pharmacy staff and techs, especially his "Snyder Girls". He loved to read, golf, play cards, horse racing and spending time with family and friends.

Doug had a wonderful childhood growing up with 3 brothers. He participated in all sports, playing whatever was in season. He especially enjoyed baseball, where he was the catcher and his older brother was the pitcher. He was an avid supporter of Minnesota Gopher sports, the Vikings and the University of Arizona basketball program.

In 1959, he married Jean Lindesmith and they later divorced. In 1981, he married Anne Marquardt.

He is survived by his wife, Anne of Faribault, MN; daughter, Lisa (Jerry) Kertesz of Tucson, AZ; step-children, Darren Marquardt of Washington, DC, Duane (Kim) Marquardt of Burnsville, MN, Troy (Chelle) Marquardt and Tracy Kolterman, both of Faribault, MN; by 13 grandchildren, Ashley, Matthew, Jacob, Kelsey, Brianna, Riley, Jadie, Reegan, Olivia, Mason, Jaelyn, Adrianna and Maiya; by 1 great granddaughter, Auroara; by his brother, David (Susan) Johnson of Clearwater, FL; by his sister-in-law, Ginny Johnson of North Carolina and by nieces, nephews, cousins and the mother of his daughter, Jean Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, two brothers, Richard and Roderic, and by a granddaughter, Mara.
