Dorwin R. Peterson, age 90, of Waseca, died suddenly on Friday, November 29, 2013 at the Mayo Health Systems ~ Mankato.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Waseca Lutheran Church in rural Waseca, with Reverend Nancy Hansen, officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at the North Waseca Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Dorwin Russel, the son of Oscar and Bessie (Paskowitz) Peterson, was born on the farm in Otisco on March 7, 1923. He attended grade school at the small country school near the farm through eighth grade and then returned to help on the family farm. Dorwin eventually enlisted in the Army and after spending almost two years in the service, was granted an honorable discharge. On June 15, 1949, he was united in marriage to Vivian Proehl at the St. John Lutheran Church and lived their entire lives in Waseca. After returning home from the service, Dorwin worked as a mechanic in Waseca for a few years and then decided to go back to farming. He and Vivian returned to town many years later and Dorwin worked at many various places including: Delta Truck Bodies, John Deere, Allis Chalmers, Waseca County Court House as the Head Janitor and Clemons Bus Service. Dorwin was a long-time member of the Sweet-Sommers VFW Post 1642, the American Legion Post 228, and North Waseca Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his children, Sharon (Peterson) LaPlount of Waseca, Dennis Peterson (special friend, Debra Smith) of Janesville, Herbert (Deborah) Peterson of Janesville and Norman Peterson of Waseca; his 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Arlene Peterson of Waseca, Geraldine Peterson of Waseca, Bev Peterson of New Richmond, WI, and Marlys Peterson of Centerville, S.D., and by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Harvey, Richard, Don, Lloyd, Albin, Norman, and Harris, and by his wife Vivian in 2011.
