Dorothy O. Brodie, age 75, of Faribault, MN, passed away December 16, 2015, at her home following an extended battle with Ovarian Cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive in Faribault. Interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Wednesday, December 31st.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to services.
The family prefers that memorials be directed to the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, the River Bend Nature Center or the District One Hospital Auxiliary in memory of Dorothy.
Dorothy Olivia, the daughter of Hubert and Mary (Barthorst) Hoeschen, was born on February 9, 1940 in Freeport, MN. She attended Melrose High School and graduated with the class of 1957. Following high school Dorothy attended the St. Cloud Hospital School of Nursing and graduated with her Diploma as a Registered Nurse in 1961. In September of 1968 she was united in marriage to Al Brodie in Minneapolis, MN. Dorothy worked at the District One Hospital in Faribault for a combination of 20 years. First from 1968-1974 in the ICU and later from 1980-1995 in the Emergency Outpatient Department/Clinic. From her care and dedication as a Nurse, Dorothy was awarded the Ruth L. Hass excellence in practice award. Dorothy was an active member of the Divine Mercy Catholic Church and was a parish nurse from 2000-2015, CCW President, a Rosary Circle Member and active with the prayer shawl ministry until her passing. Dorothy was active in helping with the American Red Cross Blood Mobile and along with Al was active in 45 years of motorhome travel. Dorothy, along with Al, enjoyed spending time socializing with their friends all across the country.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Al Brodie of Faribault; by two sons, David (Lori Halbur) Brodie of Maplewood, MN and Joseph Brodie of Minneapolis, MN; by two grandchildren, Olivia and Aric Brodie; by three brothers, Arnold (Regina) Hoeschen, Robert Hoeschen and Walter (Alice) Hoeschen, all of Freeport, MN; by her sister, Rose Mary Groen of Richfield, MN and by other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Elmer Hoeschen, brother-in-law, John Groen, sister-in-law, Donna Hoeschen, niece, Sandy Hoeschen and nephew, Kenny Hoeschen.
