Donald Bucknell

Donald Gordon Bucknell, age 81, of Faribault, MN, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2019, at the Three Links Care Center Reflections Suite in Northfield, MN, following a battle with pancreatic cancer.  This date also coincides with the 16th anniversary of his wife’s (Kathy) passing.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N., Faribault.

Memorial visitation will be held on Monday from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Don was born on December 6, 1937 in Waupaca, WI to Gordon and Margaret (Wandtke) Bucknell.  He graduated from Waupaca High School with the class of 1956 and joined the U.S. Navy, where he remained for the next four years traveling to many different ports of call.  After being honorably discharged, he worked at various places until he started his career at the Waupaca Foundry.  On May 4, 1968 he married Kathy F. Baker.  They raised three children, Cheri, Kris, and Cam.

Don and Kathy spent many years in the horse world, traveling all over the country to horse shows and participating on many trail rides.  His other passion was his family, cherishing the relationships with his children and grandchildren.  It was his grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, and Jason, that brought Don to Faribault in 2008 where he spent the remainder of his life.  While in Faribault, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their various sporting events, spending many days playing board games with the family and traveling on vacations to places such as Hawaii and Washington D.C.  Don also enjoyed his morning walks, helping with the Food Shelf, morning coffee with his friends at McDonalds, and was a diehard Packers fan.

He is survived by two daughters, Cheri (Pete) Dempsey of Jefferson, WI and Kris (Al) Shuda of Faribault; and grandchildren, Matt (Katie) Shuda, Michael (Daisy Jo) Shuda, and Jason Shuda.

Don’s passing in the first week of August coincided with other close family members.  His wife Kathy passed away 16 years ago the same day, his mother, Margaret died on August 2nd 12 years ago, and his father, Gordon died on August 6th, 51 years ago.  Don was also preceded in death by his son, Cam Bucknell.

Memorials may be designated to Brighton Hospice or the Faribault Food Shelf in memory of Don.
