Dolores B. Nichols, age 89 of Faribault, MN passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Faribault Senior Living following a sudden illness.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.
I was born Wilma Dolores Bronson on the family farm in Boonville, NY on March 4, 1931. There were 7 children and I was the baby. Scarlet fever, the Great Depression and seeing my brothers off to war during WWII were some obstacles but there was also laughter at who could make the best face when eating our Mom’s sour pickles, skating on the beaver pond in winter and swimming on Sunday’s at the swimming pond in town.
I never liked the name Wilma so I started using my middle name, Dolores, after graduating high school. In 1953, I married the only love in my life, Frank Nichols. Though I experienced great sadness when our marriage didn’t last, I was given something I could love my entire life, my daughter Sandy. I was blessed with a job I loved and worked at it until I retired in my mid 70’s. I was a nursing assistant in Labor and Delivery at Rome City Hospital where I took care of full-term and premature babies. After retirement, I spent many years enjoying life with my sister Dot by the ocean in Cape Cod.
Sandy gave me my son-in-law, Jay, and a triple blessing of 3 grandchildren to fill my heart. Cory Duke of Streetman, TX, Kelly Duke of New York City and Carrie (and Sean) Giere of Inver Grove Heights, MN. My great-grandson, Everett Giere, will arrive in October. I was also blessed with a best friend, Cathy Wilson.
A special thank you to the caring staff at Faribault Senior Living, my home the last several years, and to Brighton Hospice for helping me with my journey from my earthly home.
For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains. May you remember me with an act of kindness for someone else along the way.
