Dennis E. Buendorf, age 74 of Faribault, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the First English Lutheran Church in Faribault with the Rev. Joy K. Bussert, officiating. Interment will be held at the Maple Lawn Cemetery, Faribault.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday for one hour prior to services. The Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagle's will conduct a memorial service at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The family prefers that memorials be directed to the First English Lutheran Church Radio Fund or to the Alzheimer's Foundation in memory of Dennis.
Dennis Edward, the son of Walter and Pauline (Dutcher) Buendorf, was born on July 19, 1940 at his parents home in Faribault, MN. Dennis attended Faribault High School and graduated with the class of 1958. On August 19, 1961 he was united in marriage to Rose Marie Thompson at the First English Lutheran Church. Dennis worked with his father at his service station, Wally's Gulf Service Station, in Faribault for a period of time and then went to work at Sheldahl in Northfield. During this time Dennis started classes and training to be a Fireman and in 1967 he was hired on as a fulltime Fireman for the City of Faribault. Dennis worked for 28 years and retired in 1995. He also worked part time for Don Hatfield Transfer and Timm's Trucking. Dennis enjoyed pitching horse shoes and was very involved with the horse shoe pitch at South Alexander Park. He also enjoyed bowling, darts, trips to the casino, golfing, watching golf on TV and traveling in their motorhome. He was a member of the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Moose Lodge 2098, both in Faribault.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rose Buendorf of Faribault; by three children, Denise Eul, Linda (Doug) Caron and Lonny Buendorf, all of Faribault; by eight grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; by four siblings, Muriel (Bill) Jensen of Snohomish, WA, Ted Buendorf of Mound, MN, Donald (Kathy) Buendorf of Faribault and Tom Buendorf of Faribault and by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, William "Billy" Thompson and Randall "Randy" Thompson.
