David W. Larson, age 71, of Faribault, MN, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016, at his home following an extended illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Military honors will be provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
David Walter was born on July 20, 1944, in Tyler, MN, to Walter and Gertrude (Habben) Larson. He graduated from Milroy High School with the class of 1962. Dave attended Mankato State University before serving four years in the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service he completed his degree in Dental Hygiene at Normandale College. He was united in marriage to Katherine Hilgers on October 18, 1969, at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton, ND. Dave worked as a Registered Dental Hygienist for Dr. Howard Sauer for eight years, and the State of Minnesota for 30 years, both with the Faribault Regional Center and Minnesota Correctional Center in Faribault. He was active in the American Legion Post 43 and the Color Guard for 30 years, Faribault Knights of Columbus for 30 years, serving as Grand Knight for two years, and Faribault Eagles and Moose clubs. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception and Divine Mercy Church, serving as chair for the St. Patrick's celebration for 8 years, and years of success with the I.C. Church League softball team. Dave loved hunting, fishing, golf, softball, watching his favorite teams, the Twins and Vikings, playing cards and socializing with his buddies, and most of all, he treasured time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Larson of Faribault; son, Bryan (Kim) Larson of Faribault; daughter, Amy (Kevin) Baas of Prior Lake, MN; seven grandsons, Alec, Evan, Finn, and Miles Larson, and Braiden, Gavin, and Mason Baas; siblings, Bob (Nancy) Larson of St. James, MN, Arlene (Jim) Marchand of Fargo, ND, Dale Larson of Fergus Falls, MN, James (Colleen) Sudlow of San Jose, CA, and Warren Sudlow of Olathe, KS; father-in-law, Bernard T. Hilgers of Fargo, ND; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sandy Larson of Modesto, CA, Patti (Chuck) Haberman of Apple Valley, MN, Sheila (Mark) Beauchene of Fargo, ND, Daniel (Anita) Hilgers of Dexter, IA, Michael (Kim) Hilgers of Chandler, AZ, and Brian (Becky) Hilgers, of Manhattan Beach, CA; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Larson; father, Walter; mother, Gertrude; step-fathers, Donald Sudlow and Harm Heidebrink; and mother-in-law, Millie (MacGregor) Hilgers.
Memorials may be directed to the River Bend Nature Center in memory of Dave.
