Daniel H. “Dan” Elzen, age 76, of Faribault, MN passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ The King Catholic Church in Medford with Fr. James Starasinich officiating. Interment will be held at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Organization.
Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
The family prefers that memorials be directed to Christ The King Catholic Church in memory of Dan.
Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.
Daniel Henry, the son of Henry and Alice (Delesha) Elzen was born on July 30, 1943 in Morristown, MN. He attended Faribault High School and later enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps. On November 18, 1961 he was united in marriage to Elsie Drinken at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. Dan worked for 37 years at Crown Cork & Seal in Faribault and during that time served as the Business Manager of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 480. In retirement he worked part time at Menard’s in Dundas with the electrical guest service department. For many years Dan served as a special Deputy with the Rice County Sheriff’s Department working at different events over the years. He was a lifelong resident of Rice County and served on the Walcott Township Board. He was a member of the DragOn’s Car Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a board member at the Moose Lodge in Faribault and was instrumental at that time when the Charitable Gambling Committee was being formed in Rice County and served on that committee for many years. Dan enjoyed family gatherings, hunting, fishing, woodworking, working in his yard and gardening and taking care of their draft horses.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elsie Elzen; by his children, Annette Janousek, Robin (Ron) Kuball, Dean (Val) Elzen and Kristi (Jim) Bauer; by 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and by his beloved dog Bo; by his siblings, Gwen Tonsager, Gary (Marge) Elzen, Kathy (Tony) Durand, Ron (Pam) Elzen, Wally (Jean) Elzen and by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by his father and mother-in-law, George and Elsie Drinken and by his brother-in-law, Vern Tonsager.
