Daniel Skluzacek

Daniel P. Skluzacek, age 99, of Faribault, MN, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at Faribault Senior Living.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 16th at 2:00 p.m. at the new location of Parker Kohl Funeral Home, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N., Faribault. Interment will be at the St. Edward's Cemetery in Richland Township, Rice County, with military honors provided the Rice County Central Veterans Association.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Daniel Paul was born on June 11, 1918 in Webster Township, Rice County to Jacob and Rose (Zylenka) Skluzacek. He farmed with his family, was a milk wagon route man, and worked at Carleton College before entering the military. Dan served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medal while serving in Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Dan was united in marriage to Emma Nerud on June 3, 1947 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Hazelwood. They farmed for many years in Richland Township. Dan was a hardworking, dedicated farmer, devoting a great amount of time to farming until his retirement in 1990 and move to town. He was a member of the American Legion Post 43, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1562, the Last Man's Club, and Central Veterans Association.

He is survived by his three children, Daniel F. (Linda) Skluzacek of Faribault and their daughters, Jamie Skluzacek and her daughter, Jaylin, and Danielle Skluzacek; Jean (Lowell) Van Westen of Plymouth and their son, Nathan (Susan) Van Westen; and Gary (Eileen) Skluzacek of Faribault and their two children, Melissa (Greg) Blandin and children, Cavan and Rylee, and Derek Skluzacek and children, Henry and Athena; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma on September 6, 2012; parents, Jacob and Rose; sister, Agnes Tralle; and five brothers, Jake, Tom, Stanley, John, and Bill.
