Daniel J. Hughes, age 93 of Waseca, died on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Colony Court of Waseca. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 5th at 2:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with Fr. Martin Schaefer, Celebrant. Interment will be in Waseca's Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Monday afternoon from 12:30 until 2:30 at Sacred Heart Church. Memorials in Dan's memory are preferred to the Sacred Heart Educational Endowment Fund. McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca is handling arrangements.  Daniel Joseph was born on January 6, 1919 in Mankato, Minnesota to Daniel and Sophia (Tillich) Hughes. He was a 1938 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Waseca. Dan served in the Army Air Corp during WWII from December of 1939 until his honorable discharge in October of 1945. Following his military duty Dan returned home and began working for the Chicago North Western Railroad in Waseca, as well as attending Mankato Commercial College. He then went to work with Jostens of Owatonna until 1951 when he began a long career with E.F. Johnson Company of Waseca.  He retired in 1983 after 32 years of service. Dan was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca, and a life member of the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus (Sacred Heart Council #2768 and Leo J. Welsh Assembly #552, respectively). He was also a member of the Waseca American Legion #228, the V.F.W. Sweet-Sommers Post #1642 and a member of the former Waseca Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3753. Special thanks to the loving care provided to Dan by his caregivers at Colony Court. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and friends; by his special friends Steve and Val Spies of Waseca. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his sisters, Helen (Edward) Jacobson and Josephine (Ray) Blouin; by his nephew Daniel Jacobson. Casketbearers are: Members of the Leo Welsh Assembly-4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Honorary Casketbearers are: Dan's caregivers at Colony Court.
