Dale Eugene Sargent, age 80, of Janesville, died on October 19, 2014 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake, with Fr. Robert Schneider, Pastor officiating. Following Mass, military honors will be conducted at the church. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Mankato, MN.
Visitation will be held at the All Saints Catholic Church on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and will continue on Thursday for one hour prior to services.
Arrangements are being completed by the Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Janesville, MN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor's choice in memory of Dale.
Dale Eugene, the son of Jonathan and Eleanor (Schumacher) Sargent was born on August 2, 1934 in Mankato, MN. He attended Mankato High School and graduated with the class of 1952. After high school Dale served in the U.S. Navy and was a Machinist aboard the USS Sutherland and the USS Cockrell. He was honorably discharged in 1957. On November 21, 1959 he was united in marriage to Frances Ritter at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They later renewed their vows at All Saints Catholic Church. Dale farmed from 1961 to 1993 in the Eagle Lake area. He also worked with different businesses including Ziegler and as a grower and custom hauler for Birds Eye. Dale served on the St. Clair, District 75, school board from 1973 to 1979. He also was a school bus driver for Palmer Bus Service for several years. He enjoyed gardening, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and most of all enjoyed sitting in his four season porch watching the birds and wildlife at the feeders near their house. He was a member of the NFO, the Pork Producers of America and the American Legion Post 617 in Eagle Lake, MN.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Sargent of Janesville, MN; by four children, Terrence Sargent of Bloomington, MN, Kevin Sargent of Janesville, MN and special friend Julie Thompson, Cheryl (Terry) Lindberg of Savage, MN and Douglas (Julie) Sargent of Janesville, MN; by eight grandchildren, Calvin Sargent and fiance Michelle Trautz, Patrick Sargent and special friend Anna Redit, Angela Sargent, Carrie Lindberg, Amanda Sargent, Cassidy Sargent, Robert Sargent and Nathan Lindberg; by his brother, Donald (Rosemary) Sargent of Mankato, MN; by his sister, Dee Winkler of St. Peter, MN and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Darwin Sargent and by other relatives and friends.
