Clarence O. Swanson, age 85, of Sauk Rapids, MN and formerly of Elysian, MN, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Sauk Rapids.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Arrangements are with the Parker Kohl Funeral Home of Faribault.
Clarence Olen was born on August 21, 1933 in Faribault to Clarence and Cletia (Cowan) Swanson. He graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1952. Clarence was united in marriage to Anne Glynn on August 22, 1953 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. Clarence had a lengthy career as Circulation Manager for several newspapers including the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Owatonna Peoples Press, Mankato Free Press and retired from the Faribault Daily News. He thoroughly enjoyed working with the young carriers. Clarence was a Knights of Columbus member, president of the Catholic Men’s Club, and sang in the church choir at St. Andrew’s Church in Elysian. He liked to fish and was a master at fixing any machine. Clarence loved his wife Anne and his family.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anne Swanson; children, Craig (Becky) Swanson of Hudson, WI, Mary (Nathan) Ebert of Red Wing, MN, Teresa (Greg) Isakson of Red Wing, Michelle Davis (Christopher Hargreaves) of Chaska, MN, and Tom (Geri) Swanson of Sauk Rapids, MN; 19 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Cletia; and brother, Bill (and Lou) Swanson.
