Arthur L. Cooper, age 81, of Burnsville, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at his home following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N., Faribault, with Rev. Mark Johnson, pastor of First English Lutheran Church, Faribault, officiating. Interment with honors will be held at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Arthur LeRoy was born on May 10, 1937 in Juanita, ND to Frank and Cora (Willows) Cooper. He graduated from Valley City High School in 1956. Art served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, mostly at Ramstein Air Base near Frankfurt, Germany. Following the military, Art graduated from the Dakota Business College in 1960. He was united in marriage to L. Kaye Cooper on June 25, 1961 in Valley City. He furthered his education, graduating from the University of North Dakota in 1966, and obtained his Masters Degree in Accounting at UND in 1967. He then started his lengthy career in banking, which included his role as president of a bank in Hutchinson. Art transitioned from banking in 1991 and started his career as a District Representative for Lutheran Brotherhood from 1992 to 2006. He continued to serve his clients with their financial needs independently until retirement in 2011. For the past nine years, he and Kaye have wintered in Arizona.
Art loved to fish. For the past 22 years he and his son Scott would enjoy fly-fishing for trout in the streams of Colorado. He also enjoyed many years of fishing for northern pike at Lake Traverse in Minnesota. From high school into his retirement, Art also enjoyed bowling and was quite good! Most of all, Art was a loving husband and father, and cared greatly for his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Kaye Cooper of Burnsville; his daughter, Kristen (John) Kohl of Faribault, and their children, Sophie, Kyle, and Chloe; his son, Scott (Kristine) Cooper of Aurora, CO, and their children, Kyra and Lindsay; and his sisters, Harriet Brash, Helen Will, Eleanor Hoffmeyer, Mary Ann (Jim) Acker, and Janice Connolly; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Cora; brother, Oliver Cooper; and sisters, Doris Brash, Dorothy Kelm, and Inez Jorisson.
