Alvina M. Theelke, age 87, of Waseca, died peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the New Richland Care Center following a recent illness.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Reverend David M. Baumgarn and Reverend Giles Zimmer officiating. Interment will be held at the St. John's - Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Iosco Township, Waseca County.
Visitation will be held at the McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will continue at the St. Paul Lutheran Church from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Alvina's family requests donations be made to the St .Paul Lutheran Church, Waseca Area Food Shelf, New Richland Care Center, or to the donor's choice in her memory.
Alvina Mathilda, the daughter of Frank and Martha (Volkman) Maas, was born on October 6, 1926, in Waseca. She attended rural country school near the family farm and on June 3, 1943, was united in marriage to Norman Theelke at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. They were blessed with three children, Mary Lou, David, and Gary. Norman and Alvina first lived in Janesville before moving to Waterville and in 1956 they settled in Waseca. Alvina worked various jobs prior to working at both Birds Eye Foods and at E.F. Johnson Co. She loved singing in the choir, flower and vegetable gardening, working in her yard, fishing, and her grandchildren. Alvina was a longtime member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca.
She is survived by her children and their families: Mary Lou Kinkade (Robert Schmidt) and their children and grandchildren, Jim, Jennifer and Trystin; David (Sandy) Theelke and their three children and five grandchildren; Gary (Terry) Theelke and their children and grandchildren, Trisha, Chris, Rayann, Trevor, Maria Amanda, Jacob, Garret, Mahala, Paul, Megan and Kendrick; her sister, Alice (Leo) Slechta and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Ernie, Alfred, Lester, Mary, Gladys, Harold, Lawrence, Kenneth, Charles, Adeline, Caroline and Delores "Mickey"; her child in infancy, and by her four grandchildren, three in infancy and Little Danny.
Alvina's family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at the New Richland Care Center for their wonderful care and attention they gave her, and to Pastor Quick and Pastor Zimmer for their prayers and visits.
