Agnes Haag

Agnes H. (Britton) Haag, age 81 of Waseca, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Mayo Health System-Mankato, surrounded by her family. She was finally set free after more than a 10 year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 19th at 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with Fr. Martin Schaefer, Celebrant. Interment will be in Waseca's Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca, and will continue Saturday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. There will be a 7:30 P.M. parish prayer service Friday evening at the funeral home.
Agnes Haroldine was born the 9th of 11 children on April 26, 1931 in Janesville, MN to Margaret Lelia (Root) and Lister Harold Britton. She attended the Britton School on Britton Corner and graduated from Janesville High School in 1949. She graduated from St. Barnabas School of Nursing in Minneapolis in 1952, which was the first time she had seen TV. She married Bill Haag in Waseca on September 13, 1952. They lived the next 57 years in Waseca where they raised their five children, moving to Mankato to be near family 4 years ago. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past September.
Agnes began working as an RN in the Obstetrics Department at Waseca Area Memorial Hospital in 1952, and over the next 44 years helped deliver nearly half the kids in Waseca County. She also taught Pre-Natal Birthing classes for many years. In 1979 Agnes received the Minnesota Nurses Association Nurse of the Year award for her dedication to her patients and her contributions to nursing. She retired from the hospital in 1996.
Agnes loved her family, friends and being a nurse. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, fishing, golf (she had 2 holes in one), camping and traveling. The family went on a two week camping adventure every summer and travelled from coast to coast and border to border, creating many happy memories.
Agnes was preceded in death by siblings and their spouses Robert and Iola Britton, Katherine (Britton) and Oscar Barthelmus, Helen Denn (Britton), Gordon and Beulah Johnson (Britton), Nancy Auspos (Britton), Gordon Cumming, George Meyer, Philip Hegseth, and seven nieces and nephews.
Agnes is survived by her devoted husband Bill, children Mary Beth Waage (Roger) of Duluth, Mike (Mary Lynne) of Minneapolis, Nancy (Tim Pulis) of Mankato, Christopher of Minneapolis, Jennifer Miller (Charles) of Minneapolis, AFS daughter Monica Gomez Kohnert (Steve) of Hampton, Virginia, grandchildren, Monica Haag Kubow (Steve), Anna Haag Sabiston (Kirk), Tom (Courtney), Kristin (fiancé Brett Horvath) and Matthew Haag, Liz, Emily and Annie Waage, Alison Haag, Natalie and Nicholas Kohnert, great grandchildren Lauren, Lindsay and Carter Kubow, and a new great granddaughter Sabiston expected any day. Additionally survived by four siblings and their spouses, Reeve Cumming, Jean Hegseth, Joseph and Marge Britton and John and Rosie Britton. Due to the death of both parents by the time she was 16, and the fact that she and her siblings helped to raise each other, she treasured her large and very close extended family.
